MACC detains Felda subsidiary CEO

BAHRI: Two men have been detained, one of them a Felda subsidiary CEO, for suspected funds misappropriation pertaining to the purchase of a hotel in Port Dickson.

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that it had detained the CEO of a Felda subsidiary on March 1.

In a statement released today, the MACC director (Special Operations) Datuk Bahri Mohamad Zin said the CEO was still being remanded until tomorrow. He said the MACC also detained a businessman on Feb 26.

"He was remanded until March 5 and the remand was extended for another four days before being released on March 7," he said.

The two men, aged 44, were detained to assist in investigations as they were suspected of having misappropriated the Felda subsidiary's funds concerning the purchase of a hotel in Port Dickson valued at about RM40 million.

He said that statements had been taken from 23 individuals so far to assist in the investigation under Section 16 a (A) of the MACC Act 2009.

"Investigations are ongoing," Bahri added.

MAHATHIR: How can an aircraft weighing up to 230 tonnes vanish?

PUTRAJAYA: Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad finds the MH370 interim report 'unacceptable' and fears that 'technology games' are behind the disappearance.

"I find it strange that an aircraft weighing up to 230 tonnes can vanish. In this age of communication, we can see the face of our friend 12,000 miles away.

"This flight is a real mystery, a first in world history. I fear that technology games are at play," he said after 'The New World Order: A Recipe For War or Peace' International Conference at Putrajaya International Convention Centre, here Monday.

The MH370 interim report by the Malaysian International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) probe team was released yesterday.

Dr Mahathir also described the allegation that the pilot plunged the aircraft into the Indian Ocean as illogical.

"I find this very strange. If he wants to commit suicide, why wait until after four to five hours of flying," he added.

The interim report stated the team had interviewed more than 120 people and visited various agencies.

Beijing-bound MH370 with 12 crew and 227 passengers vanished one hour after taking off from KL International Airport (KLIA) on March 8, 2014.
